For many years, advocates of weight loss have always said that avoiding rice completely can help in weight reduction especially as it is believed to be one of the major sources of carbohydrates.
I have also come to find out that rice provide useful nutrients for nutrition. For instance there are majorly 2 types of rice I know of, brown rice and white rice.
Here is a little composition of these two types of Rice.
Brown rice has a superior nutritional content as it is an excellent source of Vitamin B3, Vitamin B1, Magnesium, moderate source of protein, and Zinc.

Brown rice has more fiber than white rice, and the difference is due to the way both types are processed. White rice is brown rice that has gone through some changes in the milling process. With brown rice, only the husk is removed. White rice is polished and pre-cooked or parboiled.

White rice has lesser fiber and vitamins than brown rice, but it’s an excellent source of Vitamin B3, moderate protein, fiber and Zinc.

Which of these two rice is better for one to eat?
Well, because of the higher nutritional component of brown rice, it is always better to eat more of brown rice than white rice. However, where there is no brown rice, white rice can be eaten in smaller portions with plenty of cooked vegetables or salad and chicken, turkey or fish for a complete balanced nutrition.

The truth is eating large portions of white rice or brown rice can cause weight gain and if you are thin and want to add weight, maybe you should consider eating more white rice.

For those who are diabetic or at risk of getting diabetics, it is best to stay away from white rice because of the excessive stress it puts on the blood sugar regulating system in the body.
White rice has a lot of carbohydrate, and carbohydrates in themselves are not bad as we need this very important component to energize us everyday.

Therefore eating rice is not bad for weight loss. What is bad is uncontrolled eating of large portions which can add more fat to the body.

Personally, I love eating rice as it is one of our major staple foods in Nigeria and it is a naturally processed food. What I will always advise is the eating of rice in smaller portions.
This also applies to all the other carbohydrate foods we have in Nigeria such as Yam, Cassava, Garri, Amala, Semovita and Potatoes etc.

You can eat the foods you love and still succeed in your weight loss goals.

The advise to leave out some foods makes life uninteresting as eating is one of the precious gifts God gave us to satisfy our cravings for hunger and delight our tongue with sweet tasting flavours.

To prove that eating carbohydrate does not stop weight loss, an experiment was performed by some researches in the U.S using Potatoes on overweight people.

They put 30 overweight people in the study on a diet. 15 people’s diets were without carbohydrate foods while the other 15 people eat a daily serving of potatoes. Two weeks later, the potatoes eaters have lost roughly the same amount of weight as the other group without potatoes.

Contrary to popular opinion, carbohydrate foods is needed by those trying to lose weight because your body needs it for energy production.

Bottom line: When it comes to weight loss, the overall composition of your diet is more important than including or excluding any single food. A balanced diet in smaller portions, high in fiber(like vegetables) and nutrients, and focused on healthful fats will get you further in helping you lose weight and maintain a healthy eating habit.

So is eating rice or any carbohydrate food good in weight loss?
It depends on your quantity of consumption and whether you are adding other high fiber foods and fat-burning components like proteins to make it a balanced meal.

Cutting it out completely deprives your body of the essential nutrients that your body needs to function at its peak.
